Operation Inherent Resolve

In 2014 the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) rapidly gained territory in both Syria and Iraq. The United States began to provide assistance to the government in Iraq and became involved in the fight to degrade and defeat ISIS. This effort was labeled Operation Inherent Resolve or OIR.
